Indian Railways (IR), popularly known as RailMinIndia on Social Media has acquired a following of 4.51 lakh followers on its twitter handle and more than 3.8 lakh on its Facebook page. In an unprecedented move directed and led by the Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Minister of Railways all DRMs and General Managers of the Zones have created their own official handles in order to interact closely with the passengers and offer real time solutions. This move has been widely appreciated by the stakeholders as this type of governance and transparency has never been seen before in any government department.
Both the social media platforms of Ministry of Railways are followed widely as they provide a combination of information pertinent to passengers, new policies, new innovations, new ideas, new developments in infrastructure and rolling stock, new thoughts as well as vignettes of the past. They keep the people informed of the processes which are going on in the Railways which would culminate in long term policies benefitting the passengers and are extremely riveting due to their interesting and informative content.
